It is late when I get back to the Motel. I kissed Holbrook for minutes and I had to spend hours trying to calm myself down. To get rid of all the evidence that my heart still beat rapidly for him. Because it did. That was something I couldn’t ignore.

And every now and then I lose it and my eyes flick back to his hands brushing against my bare skin, and his soft lips pressing against and the sound of my heart just thumping and thumping and thumping.

And I remember how he used to make me feel. How, when I met him, he was a boy full of secrets that somehow knew many of mine. And then he became that person who was just always there. The boy I used to sneak into his bed when I felt too lonely at mine. The boy that managed to get my thoughts of Alison, even if it was for a few moments.

Alison.

What am I going to do?

But I have to do something before I face Wesley, but that something involves me walking into our room.

So I open the door, and walk in.

My eyes meet Wesley’s immediately. He is sitting at the door of our bedroom arranged to see whoever comes in the door. And that happens to be me. He doesn’t get up from his position and I barely give him a glance before moving to the computer and the centre of the room. The computer screen is conveniently facing away from Wesley.

Mona and Cece are absent but I don’t need them to hack back into the main frame of the FBI. If what I guess is Holbrook’s security system is right, it should last a couple more hours.

And I can put one of my own by myself.

Wesley is still staring at me from the bedroom door when I hack into the FBI data base and type in the search bar

Annalisa Maria Holbrook.

The crime report comes up clean apart from a few shopping centre robberies that are only Hanna Marin size. I move the mouse towards list of articles posted under her name:

ANNIE ALL STAR CHEERLEADER

HOLBROOK CHARITY WORK SETS RECORD

HOLBROOK CHARITY SUCCEEDS RECORD

HOLBROOK SUICIDE

FAMILY OF SPORTS CHAMPIONS

SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE SCARES TOWN

The last one catches my eyes. It dates to a month after Holbrook and his family left Ravenswood. My mouse hovers across the article before clicking on it. I watch Wesley out of the corner of my eye as he stares at my hands across the key board.

I move the keyboard away from his prying eyes so he can’t guess the letters that I am writing.

“If you are searching up how to kill me, then just grab the kitchen knife and ram it through my heart,” Wesley said, in a monotone voice.

I am ignoring him. It’s all I can do. Because if I speak I know I will say something I will regret. And well, I don’t know what Wesley is capable of next.

The newspaper article loads and my heart drops.

A thirteen year old girl, who has asked to keep her identity a secret, was sexually assaulted on Rosewood main street last Friday night at 11:23pm. The culprit was male and had dark brown hair, blue eyes, was 6’1’’and was roughly sixteen years of age according to the description of the victim. If you have any information on the culprit, call Crime Stoppers on 8307 9028.

You know when your heart drops out of your chest and all over the floor and erupts into earthquakes. That was me. Because I didn’t have to guess who the fourteen year old girl was that got raped. This was Annie’s page. And the thing is, I don’t think I needed to guess who the sixteen year old rapist was either.

Because he is eighteen now and the sketch beside the article looked a whole lot like a younger version of someone I know.
