Next day Sarah waited very anxiously for Aaron to arrive at the cafe, she did not know why she felt so happy being offered the job but she knew she was, maybe it was because of the fact that Mrs.Smith trusted HER !! Being raised in a foster home almost all her life, the word 'trust' had a huge meaning in her life !
Finally Aaron arrived just a little after lunch and just gave her the address and time and left !! She didn't even get to clear her doubts, because when she opened her mouth to ask something, he hurriedly said that they can talk at the house and left ! She had never seen Aaron so worried, he was the calm type of person ! She only hoped and prayed that everything was alright .
When she reached the given address it was almost evening and the sun was just setting leaving the sky a beautiful shade of blue and orange ! She was alarmed to see the place where Aaron lived !! It was a huge mansion ! Something she had seen only in movies ! The enormous gate opened to a driveway which led to the house and on the driveway was a beautiful fountain, she stood there for God knows how long and was startled when a kind voice pulled her out of her trance,
"May I help you my dear?".
It was an old man,nearing his sixties and Sarah had seen enough movies to recognise him as a worker of that huge mansion. She politely replied that she was here for Mrs. Smith and the man ushered her in.
On entering she saw that the interior was even more beautiful with very elegant classic furnitures in shades of beige and cream, and the house was filled with antiques in every corner !! Sarah saw a wall filled with frames and curiously was trying to recognise Aaron in each one of them when a voice boomed over her head,
"Who the hell are you and how dare you look at the family photographs?"
Sarah was more than scared to reply anything and when she quietly turned around, she saw a man standing just few feet from her who looked very much like Aaron, but by his grey hair she knew he was his father. She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out !! No man had ever intimated her this much to shut her up !!
When she finally gathered enough courage to speak, Aaron beat her to it !
" Not that you care about it, but she is here to take care of Mama, and I would watch my tone if I were you !" .
She had never seen Aaron so angry, he grabbed her hand and was taking her inside when his father angrily came and stood in front of them,
"Watch your tongue Aaron , is this what your mother and I taught you ?".
" Dont you dare father ! Don't you dare ! You have no right to come back after ten years of leaving us and lecture me about my upbringing! You broke all ties when you left and now here is nothing for you!" , Aaron sneered.
Sarah was feeling very uncomfortable to be witnessing the family brawl of people she barely knew ! But one thing was for sure, the sudden mood change she saw in Aaron was because of this man ! She tried pulling her hand from Aaron so that she could excuse herself and go but he kept a firm hold and after the father-son staring madly at each other for a few minutes, he again dragged her along with him and took her into a room which was nearby.
On entering she saw that it was an office of some kind with lots of books and a table with stationary stuff kept neatly on it ! Before she could utter a word he said her to sit and took off !! She was left gaping at the door !! She did not know what to do !! She couldn't go back cause then she would have to face the father !! She patiently waited and finally from another door, which she hadn't noticed, Mrs. Smith entered , she too looked very tired and the usual spark from her eyes was gone.
She was uncomfortably shifting in her chair when the old lady began,
"I would like to apologise for my husband, and also my son, I hope you will forgive them, they shouldn't have made you so uncomfortable."
Sarah was about to interrupt saying that it was fine and she can come some other time when Mrs.Smith continued,
" Thats the reason I wanted you here, in this house . Taking care of me was just another reason, I wanted you to take care of Aaron, after his father left me for some slut from the city, he completely shut out the world . All he ever does is work ! Being his mother it kills me to see my young son working like a slave without enjoying his life. I have seen spark in your eyes my dear, and I want you to help him love his life ! I know you are engaged but you will do a mother a huge favour if as a friend you help my son to live again, laugh again and love again! I can pay you how much ever you want, but do not let Aaron know about it, please do me this favour !"
With that she started sobbing , Sarah was too shocked to react. She did not know what to do, she wanted to help but she was not sure about herself !
Could a person having such a dark past of her own help someone else see light in this world ??
Was it even possible ??
