Viola was shaken back to present by a loud quivering voice that came from behind her. "Oh my sons!!" It was Judy of course. Travis and Riley turned their attention towards the old lady who was walking slowly towards them. Travis held Riley by his hand and took him to meemaw. "Meemaw this is Riley!" He introduced. Judy put one hand on Riley's cheek and then caressed his hair gently. "So you are the man that has held my son's hand through thick and thin! Oh how I wish I could have gotten to know you earlier." Judy expressed her regret. "Viola?" She then looked at her as if expecting her to show some love towards Riley. Viola rolled her eyes and emotionlessly said,"Welcome."
Travis decided to stay in the guest room because going with Riley in his old room would bring back too many memories that he had  managed to push away. Coming to Vermont had already brought back the nightmares. Going back to his room could do more damage than expected.
Judy had insisted upon making the lunch that day. The meal was all vegetarian because Riley was one. Half an hour after arriving home and settling in the guest room, both the boys came downstairs. Riley was trying to put on a brave face but Travis could sense that he was trembling and sweaty probably due to nervousness.
Riley went on to help Judy to lay the table. Judy looked impressed. "Back in New York I cook and set the table while Travis does the dishes. Of course we end up doing half of each other's work though." Riley explained.
The lunch began with a very awkward silence. Viola was about to start when she noticed Riley closing his eyes and praying for a few seconds before taking a bite. To her surprise she saw Travis do the same. She had never seen Travis praying for anything except for marks before an exam! She was somewhat taken aback. She tried to hide her surprise but of course Judy noticed this. She knew that any religious activity was enough to impress Viola. She intentionality asked Riley, "Do You always pray like that?" "Yes, before lunch and before sleeping. It took me a lot of weeks to get that habit into Travis but I finally did it!" He felt a little triumphant but he avoided showing any kind of excitement in Viola's presence. Judy could tell how Viola was trying to suppress a smile. She was clearly impressed with Riley but couldn't show it due to her ego. She quickly started eating and motioned others to do the same.
After lunch, Judy intentionally sent Riley in to do the dishes as she knew it was Viola who did them everyday. Riley went to the kitchen with a couple of used dishes and found Viola there. "Ummm...Meemaw...I mean Judy asked me to do the dishes. I'm sorry I didn't mean to interrupt." Viola did not look up at him but quietly said, " You must be tired. Go rest. I'll do it." Confused as to what to reply, Riley quietly went out. 'At least she spoke to him.' Judy thought.
A glint of hope reflected in meemaw's eyes as she saw Viola smile secretly as Riley left the kitchen. Even though the smile was followed by a sigh and rolling of eyes, Judy knew that they were just a week attempt to camouflage the smile. Judy had decided that come what may, she is going to have Viola to accept Riley and celebrate his birthday together in the upcoming few days together.
She saw Travis squeeze Riley's hand and his eyes telling Riley that he was doing just fine and that they were going to survive this together like always. What made Judy happier was that Riley showed no signs of complain on his face, instead the smiled profusely and said out loud, "I know!"
Judy got up to go to her room to get some rest in order to gather energyfor the evening. 'MISSION VIOLA' She thought and chuckled. Travis and Riley looked at her silently asking her the reason for this sudden chuckle! "Oh just some old lady habits!" She replied pretending her chuckling to be a common habit. She could feel the boys' eyes on her back as she turned.
She suddenly felt week and her head was spinning so she silently and slowly walked back to her room. She couldn't tell anyone about her weekness and dizziness as she knew that they would send her back to the hospital. She could sense her end nearing and she did not want to spend her time away from home and her family anymore.
Instead she wanted to fulfil her desire to see the success of MISSION VIOLA!
