Notes - River up top

Chapter 3
R i v e r
"You coming to the game tonight?"

Felix stared at the stacks of rotting cakes lining the counter and frowned in disgust. I smirk, shaking my head.

"Nah, mate, I can't...work comes first now, I need the money..." I mutter, jumping over the desk and taking my place behind the cash register. Felix raised an eyebrow at me as if to say, "yeah, right."

I shrug, "I'm serious."

He ran a hand down his sharp face which was covered by his usual flop of dyed platinum hair. I remember when he first dyed it and his parents took his game controls away from him and cut off the Internet for a month. Rebellious little Felix just came to my house and chilled with his eyes glued to my gaming consoles until they were as red and swollen as tomatoes.

"I climbed into your room to play Xbox last night and you were sleep-talking about some hot chick named Peyton?" He says leaning his lanky arms onto the counter. "Is that the same Peyton who you liked in 5th grade?"

I frowned so deep he laughed nervously. "First of all, I'll remind myself to lock my windows before I sleep tonight. Secondly, I was not sleep-talking about Peyton, and lastly, I definitely did not like her in 5th grade," I huff, stubbornly crossing my arms over my chest.

"Okay, okay," he grins, putting his hands up in false defeat.

"Er, who are you?" A new voice says from the bakery's door. As Felix turned, his hands dropped to his sides in shock.

"Peyton," I grin, "aren't you a good view for sore eyes."

"Save the flirting for another one, Johnson, I have some ground rules if we are working under the same roof," she insists, smiling at Felix as she walked to the front of the counter.

"Er...I...I'll leave you guys to it. River, I'll meet you tonight at twelve thirty?"

I nod. Felix flashes another grin before leaving the bakery, silently.

"Ground rules, huh?" I say as she slides over the counter table, her skirt lifting just enough for me to look away to hide my blush. She sits on the edge of the counter and stares at me.

"Yes, River, ground rules," she mutters, rolling her eyes. I raise a brow expectantly. "Number one: if I'm on my period, your cleaning the bakery."

I stifle a laugh and she glares at me, "mate, if you were a girl, you wouldn't dare laugh."

I put my hand up in defeat and chuckle, "easy there, tiger, what else?"

"Don't ever - EVER - touch me...what are you...?"

I leant forward, my hands flattening on either side of her hips and I try to put the most seductive smile I can manage. "You sure about that rule?"

Her cheeks turned bright red and she shoves me away by the shoulder. "Yes, I'm very very sure, Johnson!"

I laugh just as the door slams open and a group of teenage boys walk in. They looked very drunk, with cigarettes poking out of their lips and beer bottles jammed in between their fists.

"Cake!" A brunette shouts and Peyton jumped off the counter top and slid behind me as if in fear.

"Er, could you be more specific man, we have a pretty good variety of cake...?"
