Chapter Four

"Is everything packed?" My mum asked as we put my luggage in the back of her car.

I nodded my head. I barely packed anything mum had to. It hurt to much to look at stuff I don't want to look at. I'm happy to get out of Australia, but mad at were I am going to.

"Come on, cheer up, darling. You will have fun." Mom said as I got in the passenger side and mum in the driver side with Jack in the backseat. "I was talking to a friend your dad told me about and she said you could help her out at her library. She has a son your age and...."

I nodded my head to what she was saying as I watched the only house I knew and loved disappear in the distances. I sighed when I couldn't see it. I sat back in my seat and just tuned out my mum.

"Ariela," I heard mum say catching my attention. "Are you even listening to me?"

I shook my head rolling my eyes. When do I ever listen to anyone who is trying to cheer me up. It won't helped! Haven't they learned after this six months? It's been 189 days since his death and everyday hurts the most.

"I said, you father is very excited to see you again. He hasn't seen you for four years. He's going to be shocked when he sees how tall and beautiful you have gotten.

"He has a house right on the beach. It is beautiful from the pictures I saw. He said he will buy you a surf board if you like. He also wants to know if you would like to help with his little lead football games. So, do you?"

"No. I am done with football and I think I'll take your friends offer on the library job. I will like the full hours. So, I can avoid dad." I typed in my on my phone making my mom go quiet.

Even though the voice sound robotic not angry like I wish it would. I am angry. I don't what to be here, but I don't want to go there!

She is just trying to help. I thought.

"I'm sorry." I typed looking at mom. "I'm just going to miss you two."

"I'm sure you can make new friends, Ella." Jack said.

"Who would like me as a friend?"

"Me."

"Your my best friend you have not choose." I typed trying to joke, but not working.

I have been regretting this day for two weeks since the day mum told me. It's finally here and I already want it to be over with.

I walked off my plane that just landed in Mobile, Alabama. I just need to find my dad. I don't even think he looks the same as he use too.

"Ariela?" I heard someone said making me turn in his direction.

There was a man that looked in his late forties. He had Khakis and a old sports shirt. He had black hair with a little gray and had a big smile as he walked to me.

He hugged me and I just stood there. What am I so post to do? I don't know if this is my dad or not. It could be a serial killer for all I know and he's hugging me.

"I'm not a serial kill if that what your wondering." He said with a small laugh as he pulled back from the hug. "Gosh, you have grown. I remember when you were a little bit thing. Time sure have flyn' by."

Yeah, you wouldn't be like this if you stayed in Australia. I thought.

"Well, I bet your tried." He said after a few minutes of silents. "Why don't we go over to the luggage claim and get your bags so we can go home."

I nodded my head and started to walk to the luggage claim. I heard my dad sigh and follow not far behind me.

Once, we got my bag we went out to his truck. It was a nicer, newer truck. He must have got a new one when he moved here four years ago.

Mom said, he moved house, because this one was closer to his work. Though, I don't know what he works for, he always made a good deal of money.

"So, would you like me to stop by a fast food place?" He asked after fifteen minutes of silent. "There's a Chick-fil-A down the road before my house. I could stop there."

Chick-fil-A? I never heard of that before. Must be an America thing.

"I know you never heard of it, but it's really good. It has, well, chicken."

I shook my head before looking out the window.

"Oh, well, okay. When we get to my house. I'll show you to your room. Maybe you'll be hungry then."

The rest of the ride to his house was an uncomfortable silence. About ten minutes later after him trying to talk to me he pulled into his neighborhood. It was a nice little neighborhood. A lot of beach house and you could see the beach in the distance.

"Well, here we are." He said pulling in front of a nice white beach house. "Home sweet home."

I got out and looked at his house. It look similar to mums house back in Australia.

I saw dad grab my suit case from the back and I followed him to the front door.

"Some of your stuff you sent two weeks ago are in your room." He said unlocking his door. "Me and your mum thought it was a good idea for you to have some of your old stuff to decorate your room the way you like it."

I nodded my head as I followed dad up the stairs to a small hallway with four doors. I followed behind dad as he stopped at the last door.

"I thought you would like the room with the best view." He said before openings the door to a light blue bedroom.

I was small, but I was fine with it. I didn't want to get to comfortable here. It had a small twin bed against the wall. I had a desk across from the bed and two book shelfs with a bench in between them on the far wall with the window.

I walked over to the window and looked out it. I saw that dad had a nice size pool and a cute little garden. I looked past his back yard to see the ocean. The sun was setting and it was beautiful.

"Well, I'll leave you to get ready for bed." Dad said pulling me out of my amaze with the backyard. "Goodnight, sweets."

With that said he left. He left me in shock- shocked that he even remembered his little nick name he has been calling me for years or when he lived with mum.
