It was Jason! So the person living here was Jason?! "Hey, you're awake." He said calmly. "What happened to you? You look a little strange." So he doesn't recognize me, just like in my dream. I looked down. Just like in my dream. No, not a dream. A nightmare. "You okay?" He said again, with worried eyes. I nodded. I looked around. I guess I fell asleep. I looked down again. The camp was clean. I guess he ate while I sleeping. Judging by the sun, it was a little later than 6:00, probably 6:15. The sun was beautiful from up here, just coming over the trees. "Hey, I gotta run, but you can stay here until I get back, okay?" I just nodded in response. I didn't know what I could do with my new form yet. "Okay. Well, see you later." He quickly climbed down and when a few steps away, waved goodbye. I sat up, four legs on each side of the branch. I wanted to wave back, but I didn't feel like it, so I just nodded. He walked away. After a while, I climbed down and looked around. I walked in the opposite direction he left in. My walking was better and I could run faster. My stomach grumbled. Man, was I hungry. I didn't know how to hunt like that though. After a while, I came across a bunny rabbit. I couldn't control myself. I suddenly knew how to hunt and killed the rabbit within thirty seconds. I ate it ,obviously. Whenever I was, I was a skilled hunter by nature. As the day progressed, I ate more and continued my journey. Around 4:30 in the evening, I came upon a metal fence with a sign. "Keep out! Dangerous Experiments!", it said. What a strange sign, I thought to myself as I walked around the fence. There was no sign of life except for the security cameras following me. Sooner or later, I walked away from whatever that place was. I headed back to Jason's hideout. He wasn't back yet. I decided to climb the tallest tree close by and look at the sunset like I would if I was back home. I sat there for a while, at the top of a tree where nothing could touch me. After some time, I heard some rustling from below on the ground. It was Jason. Why was he running back? I thought as I watched from above while he frantically looked around. What was he looking for? I considered. "Hey! Are you here? Hello?! Shit!" He ran away. Was he looking for me? I followed him, silently jumping from tree to tree. He ran towards the metal fence. "She wouldn't have come here, right?" He asked out loud. He was out of breath, like he had been running for hours. He slowly looked around, confirmed his thoughts and turned around. Suddenly, a person in a black suit came out from the building quiet enough, so Jace wouldn't hear him. He had a gun aimed and ready to shoot at Jason. Everything slowed down. My mind got hazy as the man pulled the trigger. The last thing I remember is jumping in front of Jason, blacking out then quickly and ,yet slowly awakening as people pulled me away from Jason, who was screaming and fighting with all of his might. I blackened out again, shot in the head. The next time I had awakened, I was in a clear case with more people in black suits and some in white coats. Everything was either black, white, gray or clear. There was a control panel and clipboards in their hands. As I remembered what had happened beforehand, I fought like a maniac. A woman looked partly sad as she pushed a gray button. Suddenly, a white fog started coming from little holes at the top of the case. Things got hazy again then I blacked out, but much more quickly this time. Nothing. I saw nothing. I awoke with a rapid heartbeat and scared feeling. Still in the same position, trapped and alone. "Tell me, can you understand me?" I turned my head to face the same sad woman as before. I nodded my head. "Can you communicate?" I nodded my head. "Can you communicate any other way?" I looked down. I tried to move my legs, which would normally be my arms. Why did they feel heavy? "Oh, I almost forgot. We drugged you. That's what that smoke was before. "What's your name? Mine is Harleen Quinzel." I didn't know what to do or say. "Can you speak?" I shook my head. "Can you try?" I nodded. I gulped. I tried to say "My name is Annie.", but what came out was worse. It sounded worse than nails on a chalk board. She made no big or dramatic movements like she knew it would sound like this. She pushed another button after I was done. She listened and than said with mixed emotions, "What a nice name. Annie. I like it. Wish I had been named that. Do you have a last name?" I shrugged. Everyone just calls me Annie. "That's okay. Anyway, now I will tell you what has happened. First, you must have been transformed somehow. We have no record of a patient called Annie. Do you know how?" I looked down. "I'll take that as a no. Okay, well, next question. Where are you from?" I didn't move. I didn't want to tell her anything. "Look we need this information, kay? We're trying to create a better human. Do you comprehend?" I nodded. Suddenly, a buff man in an army suit came in. "Quinzel, it's time for your next appointment." She gravely nodded. "Okay. Annie, I'll see you tomorrow." She gave me a small smile and then pushed to sound button off. She flipped through her papers and walked away. He, however stayed behind. With what I was/am, I could still hear him without the sound button on. "Tch. Stupid mutant. I don't know if you can hear me, but I'm going to say this anyway. All you are is an experiment for the government. Who and what you were is no longer important. You are trapped for the rest of your life. Oh, and about that young boy, who tried to get you back, he's unconscious or so we think. We left him there after we knocked him out." I looked up in shock. He smirked and left without another word. I looked, still in shock. They hurt Jason. They weren't going to get away with that. I figured I had some time before anyone would come back. I needed to collect my thoughts. I am a monster, but I still have some humanity. I don't fully understand what's going to happen. I knew they usually killed the experiments, but they didn't do that or hadn't yet. I remembered how they shot me in the head in front of Jason. No, they did try to kill me, but they failed. How? Why? I heard some mumbling from outside and after a while, I could make it out. It was that soldier guy and Harleen. "She is still human. I know she's in there. She isn't like the others. She understands! We might have a chance with this one!" "Quinzel! She is a monster! Doesn't she look like a human?! She will lose whatever humanity she has left, just like the others." She stood still and he walked away. She was about to walk back in, but I guess she remembered something because she quickly turned on her heels and ran in the opposite direction. I guess I'm not the only one here. But, who else would be here?
