She hides up a tree, waiting. If her source was right, Katniss would be unarmed until she reached inside the log- the one that the girl was just above. It wasn't the way she had wanted to do it, lacking the necessary symbolism and all that, but time was running short. Katniss would usually refuse an armed guard if offered, but any day now she would have more people watching out for her. Especially now that they knew she was being hunted.

The predator has become the prey.

The woods are nearly silent, save the rustling of leaves of the wind. But then a different sort of rustling- the metal of a fence.

Her ears perk up. The girl clutches the knife, eyes scanning. And she sees Katniss, and leaps.

Both girls hit the ground. One has a knife, one does not. One has the element of surprise, one does not.

And one has friends watching her in the forest. One does not.

Katniss wipes some of her own smeared blood onto her pant leg and got to her feet. The girl lies in a small puddle, the tranquilizer in her neck rendering her immobile.

"You alright?" The guard fumbles for words. "We should have checked the forest beforehand-"

Katniss shakes her head and turns to return to the district. The guard calls out to her "Wait, miss, there could be more-"

But there aren't. Someone picks up the girl and drags her away. Lightweight, that one. Hard to believe she's from the Capitol.
