   Prologue

It began to hit 3:01 pm late into the evening. The house was quietly nestled in a daze sleeping while the night came in. It was Valentine's Day the next morning. The house was decorated with colorful designs of pink and red hearts and warm teddy bears with "I love you" remarks hidden softly within the teddy's heart. Each one was for a member of the family. It was a holiday to celebrate "love." But not everyone had the same value to what love meant. Next to the over-sized teddy bears were envelopes with a heart sized sticker to seal it. Signed with love. I went over to where they all had been laying softly next to each other. There were four envelopes. My hand glided gently by each one until it hit the last. My name had been written there. Handwritten with pink and red hearts. To: Eva Santos, Happy Valentine's Day! It read. I dared not open the letter as my Dad came up behind me and began singing one of his famous Latina songs. His culture was a mix and study of life and salsa nature. My mom was quite different on the other hand. She was half German and her eyes were a stony brown stained as a fiery fine ruby. I loved looking into her eyes. Her nature was calm and alluring. She made home a beautiful place to be in. I moved aside in the living room to where my Dad had been standing and let him dance away as he was singing. I stood leaning in by the wall and admired his expression and enthusiasm. He always seemed to give us happiness. He made everything happy. A soft shout "Mrs. Santos May I have this dance?" was towards my mother as she stood by the kitchen door and faced him. Slowly walking towards him with a smile that widened her eyes and brought her a deep sense of happiness in her nature she glided into his arms. He lifted her hands from her side and moved his fingers gently through them. I'll never forget the love I felt between my parents that day. They were love in its essence. A genuine beam of joy and ultimate fulfillment of life and light.
